Course description and learning outcomes:

Water Specific Therapy (WST)—formerly known as HalliwickTherapy—is a globally recognized aquatic rehabilitation method supported by over 50 published research articles, see at https://www.halliwick.net/en/literature/articles

Key distinction:

– Halliwick: focuses on motor learning in water for aquatic function.

– WST applies motor learning in water to improve function on land.

Learning outcomes:

Describe the fluid mechanical applications in WST

Relate WST to clinical reasoning in evidence-based practice and become familiar with WST research

Recognize equilibrium problems of able-bodied and disabled persons, based on the Halliwick concept

Handle people in water effectively

Apply the WST exercises and activities for the neuromusculoskeletal patient population in all domains of ICF and positive health

Use the appropriate dosage rules of motor learning and tissue training in water to design a treatment program

Include ideas for neuroprotection, executive functions and fall prevention

Design treatments programs for neuromusculoskeletal patients  Use the WST-ICF assessment in water

Use basic clinimetrics and use balance assessment on land
