Course Overview
Halliwick is an aquatic movement concept developed by James McMillan, focusing on postural control through rotational movement in three dimensions (sagittal, transversal, and longitudinal).
The concept is characterized by the Ten-Point Programme, emphasizing “mental desire and physical control,” using disengagement at every point.

About the Trainer — Johan Lambeck
Johan Lambeck, PT, BHS, Cert Hydro (UK), is CEO of Aquatic Rehabilitation Consultants (Netherlands) and provides skilful aquatic therapy grounded in evidence-based practice and rigorous clinical reasoning. As a knowledge broker, he has an established track record teaching up-to-date information worldwide and scientifically chairing the seven ICEBAT congresses (2013 to date).
He is Senior Lecturer and co-founder of the Association IATF (International Aquatic Therapy Faculty) in Valens, Switzerland, and coordinated its world-renowned Advanced Studies in Aquatic Therapy (CAS). In 2025, he stepped back after 30 years as course leader of the Dutch aquatic therapy course by the NPI Physiotherapy Association. He is also Honorary Professor at Zhongshan Vocational College, Nanjing, China, and has served as Honorary Advisor to the China Rehabilitation Research Center, Beijing. Since August 2025, he is Honorary President of EAPTA, the Egyptian Aquatic Physical Therapy Association.
From 1979–1997 he led aquatic therapy at the Sint Maartenskliniek in Nijmegen, Netherlands, and from 2006–2016 he was a research associate at Leuven University, Belgium. He has (co-)authored 6 books, 3 web-based books, and over 50 peer-reviewed articles on aquatic therapy. He was named Aquatic Therapy Professional in the United States by ATRI in 1998, and in 2020 became the first non-American to receive the “Excellence in Aquatic Physical Therapy” award from the Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy (APTA, USA). Since 1983, he has taught roughly 1,000 aquatic therapy seminars in 64 countries around the world.

- was in 30 courses together with Mac in Netherlands and Switzerland
- was scientific chair of the congress “Halliwick in 1986”
- was asked to lecture Mac’s courses after he passed away in 1994
- am co-founder of the International Halliwick Association and the Halliwick Foundation
- co-founded the German Fördergemeinschaft Halliwick
- digitalized and take care of Mac’s professional archives
- wrote over 40 books, chapters and articles about Halliwick
- chair the Dutch Halliwick Association
