About Course
IBITA Bobath Basic Course
The Assessment and Treatment of Adults with Neurological Conditions
Build a structured approach to assessing and treating adults with neurological conditions through the Bobath Concept. This intensive postgraduate course connects current evidence in neuroscience and motor control with clinical reasoning and practical treatment.
Across three parts, you will learn through lectures, hands-on practice, instructor demonstrations, and supervised assessment and treatment of real patients. The course focuses particularly on stroke and upper motor neuron lesions.
What you will learn
- Assess movement, postural control, and functional limitations using clinical observation and outcome measures.
- Develop patient-centred goals and treatment plans using the ICF framework.
- Apply practical strategies for bed mobility, transfers, balance, gait, and upper limb function.
- Use motor learning principles, facilitation, and task-specific practice in treatment.
- Review patient responses, refine clinical hypotheses, and explain your treatment decisions.
Course structure
Part A: Assessment
Neurological assessment, movement analysis, postural control, and outcome measures.
Part B: Treatment
Patient-centred interventions for balance, walking, transfers, and arm and hand function.
Part C: Clinical Reasoning
Recovery after stroke, complex clinical presentations, case studies, treatment progression, and reassessment.
